Henry Starts a Lake County Winning Streak!

After struggling in the second half of their South Atlantic League (A) baseball season, the Lake County Captains turned to Henry Holman on Wednesday night to bring back the magic to Classic Park. Henry, sensing that the Captains needed a shot in the arm, asked Dad for the "go-to" win streak maker -- the super foam finger. Did it work? Final Score: Captains 6, Grasshoppers 1.

Here's proof of the foam finger magic:

(That's the Captains celebrating their victory behind Henry's magic foam finger)

Prior to the game, Henry scouted the weather conditions noticing that the wind was blowing straight out to center field. Henry relayed the weather data to Captains hitting coach (and surrogate uncle) Jim Rickon, who apparently passed along this vital information to his hitters. What was the end result you say? Well, check out the box score. The Captains pounded out 12 hits, including three bombs -- one of which rode the jet stream to dead center field just like the Hankster called in the pregame. All offense? Nope, the magic foam finger also rallied the Lake County pitching staff. Ryan Morris threw 6 innings of no-hit baseball and Lake County won for the third time in four Holman outings this season.

In case the Captains front office is concerned about karmic backlash, Henry also made sure to pick up a Skipper doll and a Skipper foam head for Caroline and Josie scored a teddy bear hoodie doll. What about Dad, you say? Well, I ended up winning bingo in the fourth inning and then failed to turn in my winning card because I could not remember where the announcer said to get the prize. After all, it was senior citizen night at the old ball yard. I was definitely in my element.

Note: Henry and Dad made the Captains photo album.

Yo Adrian!

Tough weekend for the Hankster. On Saturday night, he trips over the stroller wheel while trying to escape a push from his adoring sister Caroline and does a nose-first header into the showroom floor at Levin's Furniture in Akron.

Then on Sunday morning, he proceeds to ignore his father's advice when jumping on the bed with his hard-headed sister Caroline. Crack! She jumps up as he comes down and voila! Shiner.

It should be noted that Caroline came out of both encounters with no marks -- other than the devil horns that have started to sprout from her head. But don't take our word for it, let Henry explain it.

Okay, a few notes on the video. First, Caroline does own clothes. Second, Henry was not "coached" to answer these questions.

Lazy Tuesday

Enjoy the kids on another lazy Tuesday! (Note: Caroline is in the midst of intensive potty training sessions with Mommy, thus the nakedness).

Erica Paige

I had the misfortune of having to clean out my Treo phone this week so I could acquire the latest version of the Treo 700 series (who cares, right?). I'm missing Erica and I run across this photo from our trip to Ludington, MI last year. We sneaked this shot while Bill was running up random sand dunes on the Trail of Tears he made us march at the end of a long day (Judy, how do you put up with him?). Anyway, for me on the single loneliest week of my life, this was the equivalent of finding a $50 bill in my pants pocket.

Sweet Caroline

Caroline is the ultimate volunteer. Back in May when Dad was mulching the mulch beds, Caroline was the only Holman kid to pitch in to help. She grabbed her black snow boots (her idea) and took over the kid wheelbarrow to help Dad mulch. One thing we notice about Caroline is the fact that she is always there to pitch in whether it's what she should be doing or not. An admirable trait if you harness it early enough. In any event, she insisted on helping and here's the result. Without Caroline's help, the yard would not have looked as good as it has this summer.

I have a feeling we'll be mulching together for the foreseeable future!

Hammerin' Hank's Trip Around the Bases

For those who missed it, here's Henry touching 'em all in Tee Ball. (Notice the fat guy loading up the tee...that's the Big Hombre known as Dad)

Henry played in 11 games this year and finished the year hitting pitched balls and not using the tee. He was a hit in the field, especially at 1B where he proceeded to run the bases even while the opposition was batting! His favorite position in the field was P and while Dad was biting his nails hoping he didn't get creamed with a line drive, Henry more than held is own. He was the youngest player on his team and had no problem keeping up with the big boys.

He made his Mom and Dad very proud!

July! July!

Erica and the kids are away in Terre Haute and I'm here in Ohio missing them terribly. Not a moment too soon, Mommy and Jo-Jo send me a picture to keep my spirits up. Enjoy!
