What is "Poogie"?

The appropriate nickname of a kid from our old neighborhood in Terre Haute, Indiana who when asked why he was called "Poogie" answered, "[b]ecause that's the word 'goop' spelled backwards."

The logic is as unassailable then as it is now. Thus, the adoption of it as a nickname.
